1. What Is Working Well For You Right Now?
That is the No.1 thing, you need to stick with what is working for you right now. Dont reinvent the wheel if you know people are coming to you for one septic type of product, create unique takes and variations of that best selling product. One of the most common things I do see a lot of and is why a lot of shops are not growing is because they are creating too many different types of products. They think well I make jewellery so I will make, earrings, I will make necklaces, I will make gem stone bracelets, I will make minimalistic jewellery and add it all to the same shop, when in actual fact they have not just stuck with what is selling well for them and created additional variations on that.
Its like when you see Chanel No.5 they are not reinventing the wheel every single time, they are just bringing out variations of the same scent in a more floral scent, more masculine scent. It all started with that original Chanel N0.5 they saw it, they made a lot of sales, they thought ok people are buying a lot of fragrance from us. You didn't see them bringing out body soaps, no they brought out variations and its the same for you in your shop.
One thing I will say is, don't make for yourself, make for your customers. Ok are you sitting down for this , cause I feel like a lot of people might be like, that struck me where it hurt Steph, but its true you are NOT creating this for yourself or your family members, you ARE creating products for your customers. Your customers are giving you little hints and literal waving their flags saying I like this thing, when they are favouriting your item, when they are purchasing it and when they are leaving you feedback for your item. Those are the flags that you need to follow, instead of reinventing the wheel and bringing in all these other products, just make what is working for you.
2. Study Your Listing Stats
These are going to give you little hints on how people are finding your shop and what they want to see from you and therefore what you should be making ext. So if people are coming to your shop looking for a gold heart locket necklace but all you make is big round necklaces, it could be that actually. maybe you could be making some gold heart locket necklaces to fulfil the people coming into your shop. What search terms are they using, how are they finding you, look at individual listing stats and the search term Bet function under. marketing tab within your Etsy shop or the Etsy app. Look at both of these things, especially around the time when you are creating some new products. You definitely want to be making sure you are monitoring these things because believe it or not this is literally those people saying I want this thing, I came to this shop to buy this thing but you didn't have it.
3. Do Some Target Market Research
What kind of people are they, what stuff are they favouriting? If you go through your reviews, or your messages and click on your customers Etsy profiles, 9 time-out of 10 you will see they ahem favourited other shops, other items. These are clues guys, again this is their flag that they are waving saying I wanted to buy this from you but you didn't have it and now I have had to go somewhere else to buy it. So go and have a look at what your customers in essence what they want to buy bit can to buy from you .
