The biggest time-saver for all you bosses wearing every hat in your business is using AI! Let me show you how…

I know there is going to be a few of you who hate AI and are wanting to avoid it at all costs and maybe even feeling a bit scared of the whole AI thing or you might be the opposite and are feeling super excited! 

It really depends on how open you are to new tech and how you feel about AI as to how you much you want to accept it into your business. 

I think AI certainly has a lot of limitations, I had a couple of 1-1 clients that were using AI to help write blog posts and do their SEO, but unfortunately whilst it may feel like you are getting the job done quicker, it's not in your voice, it was full of keyword stuffing, the SEO was really highly competitive keywords, it was just not quite right. I think my advice would be, use it to get ideas but I think there are people out there that are completely relying on AI to do everything for them.

Ask yourself the question, Would you put a bot in the driving seat of the place that brings in most of your sales, that could be your SEO, your email list, your social media?

I really like AI, but right now I personally don't want to give over a big part of my brand identity to it! Humans connect with humans and I think that is especially true when you have a small handmade business because that is the very core of what we do. We are not some faceless corporation.

Way back when all cars were handmade, it wasn't anything special to say you had a handmade car, because they were all handmade. Then as technology progressed and cars started being made by machinery, robots etc. handmade cars are now absolute luxury because people didn't want a machine making their car. Hand cars are now the luxury car that cost a premium because they are handmade, they are special. 

Not sure if you agree but I feel like AI will be like that, so for the next year there maybe a few boundaries are pushed but the creative projects are the ones that demand the most money. 

So lets go over some uses for AI, the is certainly not an exhaustive list but definitely things I think can help you in your handmade business, that can help get rid of that blank page syndrome. We all get it that feeling where you are just sat their feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start, I think AI is perfect to start the ideas rolling but I do not think we should be using it as our published copy. 

Every single tool has an AI in it Canva has a Toole called Magic Write for examples don't think you need a new place to go to use AI, have a look at tools that you already use and see what AI functions they have. 

Good uses of AI in Handmade Business 

• Marketing Emails 

You can just open up a tab and use chat GPT and type in something like, 5 email ideas for a handmade bow business, this will give you some great ideas to get started. 

Welcome email sequence! Yes I know there are a lot of you that have procrastinated the living guts out of not doing your welcome sequence. Chat GPT really can help you with this so go try it out. 

• Social Media captions 

I find AI is so good to get some ideas from but then you just need to ensure you use these ideas in your own voice. Remember do not just copy and paste, make it your own. 

 Do I really need to learn AI or can I just carry on as I am? 

I think you can carry on as you are. I wouldn't say you need to learn it but it's good to have a rough idea as to what is going on. If you are well on your way with your social media, you have good engagement from your home hub, you have your own brand voice, I don't think you need to start using AI, but I think its a great idea to know what is going on, to have a little play around with everything and understand the tool in case you need it for something? 

• Bullet Script 

This is not something I have used myself, as I tend to use bullet points and I just use this but if you prefer to have it scripted out for you you can use it for this for sure. Also can be used for blog posts, marketing, emails, social media captions etc. 

Would I use AI to write a blog post?

NO! I would ask for a blog post on a certain subject, I would then copy and paste into a word document and change it around to match my brand voice, my products specifically etc. 

Customer service responses 

How many of you guys get a difficult customer and you just doing know how to respond to them, you are like - how do I express my boundaries without sounding angry. Ask AI to help you write something for a customer who maybe wants a refund. Again it is NOT copy and paste = done! You need to change it to match your business, your voice but in this case AI can help take out the emotion  

AI is here to stay and it will get bigger and better and we need to not be scared of it and understand it more, and so much of it can help us save time in our business.
