How to change shop categories on Etsy

starting a handmade business technology to grow your business Jun 13, 2023

Today I am going to go through how to change your Etsy categories, what you should be using them for, how you can bulk edit your listings, so if you have a bunch listing you want to change to a different category I will show you a simple way to do this in bulk.

So the categories in your shop are on the left hand side of your shop screen, they are like a site map to show you if you want this thing then you need to click here. You should be using categories in your store. One thing I will say is you need to have a pretty even spread of your listings across all of your categories, so dont have like 3 categories and have 80 listings in one and 3 in another, as this shows me your probably not using the categories correctly and need to spread some of those listings out.

In your draft section of your Etsy shop on your computer you can see all the categories listed in the drop down menu on the right side of your screen, when you click this you will see al your categories. But if you click the manage button it will allow you to move your listings around.

If you would like to bulk edit a load of listings into a different category you can go back to your draft listings and highlight the ones you want to move and choose the drop down menu at the top, titled Editing Options. Choose the option Change Section and then you can choose where you want to move them to.

One thing I would say categories wise is, it's really fun to have a category for the season, so for example if you have a lot of new Christmas products you could even have a  category in your shop that tells people what your new products are. You can also sort it by occasion, by use , so for example if its coin up towards Christmas and people are looking for Christmas themed gifts I would create a Christmas category to help my customers find what they are looking for. If you have some products that you wish to discontinue you can create a sales section, or you could use a last chance to buy section. Think about how your favourite shops use different categories for their products.
